Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, has revealed that over $6 million was budgeted for the AFCON 2019.
This, according to him, included training tour, expenses for main tournament and related activities.
“A budget of US$6,365,033.44 was approved for the tournament comprising
training tour, main tournament and their related activities.”
He added that out of the allocated amount, US$4,563,353.00 was spent
from during the training tour to the time Ghana exited from the main
tournament.
The Sports Minister expressed disappointment that although the Black
Stars team went to the tournament with determination and all the support
they needed, the team performed below expectation.
He made the assertion before parliament today.
The Blackstars’ exit from AFCON 2019 was one of the unpleasant memories for football fanatics in the country.
Ghana lost to Tunisia at the round of 16 of the game.
Issues of coaching deficiencies were one of reasons most supporters believed caused the team’s early exit
Hence Ghanaians called for the sack of head coach of the Black Stars Kwesi Appiah.
Isaac Asiamah has therefore indicated that after the study of various
reports, the issue of reorganisation of football in Ghana will be
addressed.
